Feel free to peruse this site for detailed descriptions of the various masonry services we provide in Kingston.
Our masonry company operates under some core values, and these include things like trust, communication and reliability, traits that are the core foundation of any relationship, including business-client relationships. These values stem from our deep desire to be part of a long-standing trade that, even well into the 21st century with advanced technologies and many jobs being replaced by machines, masonry is going strong. We will always need shelter and need buildings, so with those, there’s a certain amount of maintenance, repair and restoration that will be required. So what does a mason do exactly? In general terms, they use bricks, stones or concrete blocks to build structures, which may include chimneys, enclosures, walkways, walls, fireplaces and anything else that’s limited only by our imagination. In a nutshell, that’s what we do, along with complementary services that help preserve, maintain and refresh. Here are some of the services we provide: Steps and walkways |
Porches, steps and walkways: installing bricks or blocks is not as simple as just laying it on a surface. There are many nuances that many people don’t realize need to go into this job. For example, the foundation for walkways, porches and steps will likely be different. Walkway stones need to be applied on grade on the ground and allowances made for the stones to potentially shift or move with contraction and expansion. Stones applied on steps, on the other hand, must be laid on a strong, minimally or non-moving foundation block. If applied improperly, this can lead to uneven surfaces which can be a tripping hazard and other complications like cracked mortar. Masonry Kingston will confidently install porches, steps and walkways with the utmost precision so you’ll be able to enjoy a beautiful, functional and durable product for years to come.

Masonry Fireplace |
Chimney and fireplace repairs: in many old dwellings, chimneys and fireplaces have lived through many years of wear and tear from use and environmental factors like our harsh winters bringing on snow, ice and hail to cause additional damage. You might see cracks in the brick, spalling (when bricks fall from its structure, which is dangerous if it’s coming from up above like a building or chimney), or staining. Our masonry contractors ensure that your fireplace or chimney repairs will not only improve its appearance, but that their function and safety are restored.
Brick Repair
Brick repairs: you’ll find similar issues as in chimneys and fireplaces, but at a potentially larger scale. Kingston has many beautiful homes and buildings, and with age brings a look of distinction and history, but also structures that need some refacing or repairs. Common issues that arise needing brick, concrete blocks or stone repairs include cracks, spalling, staining, displacement and leakage, which are common problems seen in chimney repairs too. Masonry Kingston will repair these structures with care to restore their integrity and give it a facelift if needed. This leads us to the next point…
Waterproofing
Waterproofing: brick walls and foundations with no cracks should have enough integrity to withstand water leakage. However, you’ll need additional insurance for your home or dwelling in areas highly susceptible to water damage, and this includes the foundation surrounding a basement. We have perfected a specialized technique that waterproofs the masonry and foundation to prevent the symptoms of water leakage and mould which would have ultimately led to the disease of damaged structural integrity, with the bonus of being unsightly.
Parging
Parging: in our industry, this term is well-known, but a lot of people not trades or construction have either never heard of it, or have heard of it and have no idea what it is. If you’re in the latter camp, think of parging as adding frosting to a birthday cake. You can have the cake without frosting, but the frosting makes the cake look complete and pretty, and to a certain degree helps protect the soft fragile cake within. The same goes for parging which involves adding a mortar mixture to a brick or concrete wall, usually at the base, to create a complete visually appealing look and additional protection from the elements like snow and rain.
Stone work
Stone work: masonry is often associated with bricks, but we use other materials to create walls and structures including concrete blocks and natural stone. Stone can be used on retaining walls, walkways, pool decks, accent fence posts, accent columns and whatever your heart desires. If you have space, we can build it.

Customer TESTIMONIALS
Take a look at what some of our customers had to say:
Two thumbs up on our brick restoration...we had a lot of chipped bricks on the sides of our property, not only was it unsightly, but I was worried water seepage would lead to more damage. Thank you Masonry Kingston for doing a great job.
- Bret A.
We needed a stone walkway and steps installed and are glad we followed the recommendation from a friend to go with this company. They did a fantastic job and everything is lined up so well, almost OCD-level, but that's what we want!
- Travis S.
Our parging service request was done meticulously by Masonry Kingston. I've seen other parging jobs that were done sloppily, but not this one. And it's important for it to be done well for optimal waterproofing features.
- Lisa C.
Some of our prospective clients ask:
Is brick construction good?
Brick is a timeless masonry unit that has classic appeal, not just due to its aesthetics, but it offers a myriad of benefits over other construction materials like wood or concrete. Some of the advantages of brick include: a stronger, longer-lasting structure, an increase in resale value while reducing the insurance rate, its fireproof and rot-resistant features and low maintenance requirements, just to name a few.
can a retaining wall be put on a property line?
As in a shared fence, a retaining wall can be placed on a property line provided both parties are in agreement with the arrangement, shared costs, etc., and a permit is granted by the City.
why is masonry important to the construction of a structure? can i just choose the cheaper brick veneer?
There is no right or wrong answer, but in certain applications, there is usually a better option. For example, if you're looking for a brick veneer over an existing steel or concrete structure, that adds to the aesthetic appeal and is reasonably affordable. If, however, you're looking for a new construction and strength is of paramount importance, you can't go wrong with a full brick structure. It provides stability, insulation, value (resale and lower insurance rates), weather-resistance, fireproofing and much more.
is masonry expensive?
The cost of masonry construction can vary depending on the materials used, the size and complexity of the project, and other factors. However, masonry is generally considered a long-term investment due to its durability and low maintenance requirements.
should i use natural stone or man-made stone?
When it comes to choosing between natural stone and man-made stone for construction, there are several factors to consider. Here are some key differences between the two:
Overall, the choice between natural stone and man-made stone will depend on your budget, aesthetic preferences, and the specific needs of your project. While natural stone can be more expensive, it offers a unique and long-lasting beauty that cannot be replicated by man-made stone. Man-made stone, on the other hand, may be a more practical and cost-effective option for certain projects.
- Appearance: Natural stone has a unique, natural appearance that can vary greatly from one piece to another. Man-made stone, on the other hand, is designed to mimic the look of natural stone and may have a more consistent appearance.
- Durability: Natural stone is generally more durable than man-made stone and can last for centuries. It is also less likely to fade or wear over time. Man-made stone can also be durable, but its lifespan may be shorter than that of natural stone.
- Maintenance: Natural stone requires very little maintenance beyond occasional cleaning, while man-made stone may require more upkeep, such as sealing or staining.
- Cost: Natural stone can be more expensive than man-made stone, especially for rarer or more exotic types of stone. Man-made stone is often more affordable and readily available.
- Sustainability: Natural stone is a sustainable material that is mined from the earth, while man-made stone is typically made from a mixture of cement, aggregates, and pigments, which may have a higher environmental impact.
